Congratulations on a lovely website and so very pleased to see the completion of the Grave of the Yellow Men - which represents to me the gracious and generous nature of the people of Kilbaha, who continue to embrace the strangers that visit their beautiful region. I quote from Seamus Heaney's poem 'Postscript':
And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you'll park or capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open
The last sentence is exactly what happened to me when I first visited Kilbaha! Thank you Kilbaha!

  Hello,

My GGGrandfather, Peter Lynch, was born in Cross, County Clare, 1834 and emmigrated to NZ through Australia. He married Maria Madeline Carrigg, also from Clare, in Ballarat, Australia and followed the Gold Rush to Otago, NZ where he eventually died at Bullendale, Wakatipu, Otago, 1886. Can anyone tell me anything about the Lynchs of Cross or something about the Carriggs? What's the best source for family history from the Loop Head?

Hi, We live in Andalucia, Spain, and wonder if you could help us. We have a very beautiful currach that was made on the Isle of Inishturk. I was the farrier for the islanders for 7 years and they made a 15ft. currach for me when I retired. Here in Andalucia we are not allowed to use petrol engines to propel our boats and can either sail them, or row them. At the moment we are rowing our currach but wondered if there are any plans available for conversion to sail...of any sort?. Chris
