My wife and I vacationed for 2 weeks in Kilbaha in June. What a wonderful time we had.
All the people we met were very kind and friendly. We really enjoyed the John Kelly concert and the Currach races. We also attended the dedication of the Yellow Men Memnorial.
For anyone considering visiting Loop Head I only have one thing to say... BE WARY... you may never want to leave.

My partner and I are coming over to Lisseycasey in two weeks time. We have visited Loop Head in the past and are looking forward once again to take in the breathtaking views.
We were fortunate enough to see Choughs and dolphins when we were last over and we still(2yrs on)have those amazing memories fresh in our minds.
Thank you for allowing us to share these treasures with you.

April 28th 2010 : I'm just completing an 8-month project transcribing the 1,000 page Greater Carrigaholt / Cross area baptism & marriage registers from about Feb 8th 1853 and Jan 1852 respectively, through to St Patrick's Day, March 17th 1878. I'm trying to track all other books, too.
I'll try to help everyone out who is looking for that data, but just now I'm still trying to finish collecting it.

Please leave your contact email here,
or email me at MURRAY@GINNANE.CO.NZ

My great-grandfather John Ginnane(1851-1933) arrived in Lyttelton, NZ on the ship Rakaia, in December 1877 from Rahona East / Carrigaholt.
John's mother was Mary Murray(1819-Dec 1878), also from Rahona East.
Those families' distant descendants are still there on their farms.

Congratulations on a lovely website and so very pleased to see the completion of the Grave of the Yellow Men - which represents to me the gracious and generous nature of the people of Kilbaha, who continue to embrace the strangers that visit their beautiful region. I quote from Seamus Heaney's poem 'Postscript':
And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you'll park or capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open
The last sentence is exactly what happened to me when I first visited Kilbaha! Thank you Kilbaha!
