West Clare Gaels Senior League 2009
FIRST ROUND - On Sun March 8th West Clare Gaels played the Banner in Gale Force conditions. They held the Banner to a draw on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-5
Representing our parish on team were.
Suzi O Gorman, Kathleen Foley, Denise Geaney.
The team were captained on the day by Michelle Downes.
SECOND ROUND - On Sun Mar 28th West Clare Gaels played Kilmihil in reasonable weather conditions. They won on a scoreline of 2-5 to 2-3.
We were represented by Denise Geaney, Kathleen Foley and Suzi O Gorman on the day from Naomh Eoin. Both teams were short a few girls on the day.
THIRD ROUND - V Liscannor on Good Friday but it was not a good Friday for the Gaels as they learnt a lesson from Liscannor in Liscannor. On a wet field and with a good breeze our girls started well enough but without their star forward Majella Griffin. They tried but not hard enough and it seemed that was the difference in the two teams. They were beaten in most corners of the field and need a win now against Miltown to stay in League contention.
4th Round - V Miltown in Cross on 25/04/09
This game was actually played in Doonaha because of weather conditions. West Clare Gaels won well on bad conditions. This placed them in a quarter final position.
Quarter Final -V Fergus Rovers 09/05/09.
West Clare Gaels put in one of their best performances to date with both sides level after 25mins of play but then The Gaels upped their performance and were ahead at half time by 2-07 to 0-04. In the second half West Clare Gaels kept a strong performance and all the hard training paid off with a good win to put them in a semi-final spot against Cooraclare.
Under 16 West Clare Gaels-League
West Clare Gaels played Burren Gaels in the Final of the League and were very unlucky to be beaten by a point for the second year running. Representing Naomh Eoin on this team were Ciara Lynch, Sinead Tevlin, Colette Keniry, Mary Beth Downes, Ashley Walsh, Ciara Malone. They have had a great season so far and there team mentors were Michelle Downes and Denise Geaney.
